/

Steve Weakley is a guitarist best known for his work with the band Funk, Inc.

Founded in 1969 under the leadership of organist Bobby Watley, the Indiana-based ensemble secured a recording contract with Prestige Records within two years, courtesy of producer Bob Porter. Their unique fusion of dynamic jazz improvisation and captivating funk rhythms garnered widespread acclaim from radio hosts, music enthusiasts, and critics alike, resonating deeply across the nation. The original lineup of the band split up in 1976.

Years later, with the spotlight of Britain’s acid jazz scene directed towards Funk, Inc.’s contributions–as well as their music being sampled over 600 times by artists including Jay-Z, Black Sheep, Boogie Down Productions and DJ Food–the band’s influence remains highly regarded.
