Episode 22: Mark Montesano

Ever since he fell under the spell of jazz while listening to his father’s record collection over 60 years ago, jazz has been much more than a music for Mark Montesano. It’s a passion that has inspired and sustained him throughout his life. Since the early days, he’s listened to hours and hours of it, witnessed many live performances of it; played it, read about it, hosted a radio show about it; and taught about it. For him, it’s a kind of religion: It has its saints and sinners; its kings and rebels; its history and traditions; its prophets and sacred grounds; its revelations and stories of human struggle and glory; it’s the history of America; a way of living day to day. What does he mean by all this? Let’s find out.
