Episode 23: Shawn Lee
/

Shawn Lee is an American musician, producer, video game composer and multi-instrumentalist who lives in London, England.

Shawn grew up in a rural area on the outskirts of Wichita, Kansas. While his peers got off on cheesy corporate rock, Shawn was groovin to blaxpo funk. Next stop was Los Angeles. Already an able multi-instrumentalist, Shawn now set about developing his songwriting.

In 1995, Shawn moved to London, where he recorded his solo debut for DJ Gilles Peterson’s Talkin Loud label. For all the wrong reasons, the album was never released. Resolving to write and record on his own terms, Shawn kept working. He created the infamous “Planet of the breaks” series as well as 5 volumes of “Ape Breaks” series. He eventually opted to sign a deal with Mark Jones at Wall of Sound, and his album “Monkey Boy” featured the cult song “Happiness.”

Since 2004, Shawn’s output has been prolific, to say the least. He released 10 albums with his “Ping Pong Orchestra,” composed for film, TV, video games, in the TV series, and more recent projects include: AM & Shawn Lee and Young Gun Silver Fox.
